Originally cut into a solid rock cliff, the first dedicated to King Ramses II, and the other rock-cut temple at Abu Simbel, is the Temple of Hathor, which is fronted by six enormous standing statues. Four of them performing King Ramses II, the other two are of his favorite wife – Queen Nefertari.

The most remarkable feature of the temple of Abu Simbel is that the con-struction is oriented in a way that twice a year, the morning sun rays shine through the length of the inner temple cave and illuminate the statues of the four gods seated at the end of the cave.
